Juanes mesmerizes on the MTV Unplugged Stage

Colombian superstar Juanes records his highly-anticipated “MTV Unplugged” album, revisiting hits from his musical career and unveiling three new songs as part of a stellar performance. The special included guest performances by Spain’s music legend Joaquín Sabina and Brazilian superstar Paula Fernándes, in addition to Juan Luis Guerra as Musical Director. The Juanes MTV Unplugged will premier on Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más, in addition to MTV Latin America, MTV Spain and VH1 Brasil in May 2012. The CD/DVD of the acoustic performance will be released by Universal Music in conjunction with the show’s premier. With the support of the City of Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, the Juanes MTV Unplugged special and album was recorded at the Frank Gehry designed New World Center in Miami Beach on February 2nd, 2012.
Juanes, winner of a Grammy and multiple Latin Grammys, strip down musically and unveiled new versions of his greatest hits including “La Camisa Negra”, “Me Enamora”, “A Dios Le Pido” and “Es Por Ti”, among others. Additionally, he performed three new songs in conjunction with Juan Luis Guerra for the Unplugged performance: “La Señal”, “Azul” and “Todo en mi vida eres tú”. Alongside the beautifully talented Brazilian composer Paula Fernándes, Juanes delivered a bilingual duet to his emotional hit “Hoy Me Voy”. Singer, composer and poet Joaquín Sabina also took the stage for a delightful performance of “Azul”.
For the MTV Unplugged show, Juanes was flanked by an ensemble of 16 musicians including a guitarist, piano, tipple, banjo, ukulele, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, vocalists and Frost Singers of the University of Miami closed the show with a powerful performance of “Odio Por Amor”.
Jose Tillan and Charlie Singer served as Executive Producers and Marc Zimet as Executive in Charge of Music Talent for Tr3s: MTV, Música y Más. Ivan Dudynsky served as Director alongside Production Designer Anton Goss and Lighting Director Tom Kenny.
